About

How did Aureum Pens come about?

Having now retired I wanted something to do with my time. I knew I wanted to do something but didn’t want to work for someone else. I needed something I could do at my leisure and thought up many schemes of what to do. At first it was Web design and started looking into that many years ago, but that was moving too fast for me to keep up with all the changes, despite completing a course in Web Management! Then I thought of making something and I wondered about clocks made of wood or brass, but that turned out to be far to technical and fiddly for my liking.

Then I hit upon making pens!

A couple of years ago a friend of mine was showing people pens he was making and I admit I began to wonder if that was something I could do? I’ve never done any kind of lathe work before and had not a clue of an idea where to start. I then saw courses advertised and as it wasn’t too expensive I signed up. It was a one day course and I was taught to make two very basic pens. I thoroughly enjoyed the course and decided to invest in the equipment required and have now expanded my experience to the present range of ten different types pen. My range will expand as my experience and confidence grows. I do not make a living from making and selling my pens, they’d be prohibitively expensive if I were to do that. I do it because I enjoy it and it gives me something to focus on during the working week.
